VPN Error 734: The PPP Link Control Protocol Was Terminated

I encountered this problem using a VPN with PPTP. I tried the solutions but the main ones did not work.

First vpn fixes

This list is what Microsoft says to do. Microsoft- Error 734: The PPP Link Control Protocol Was Terminated

• In the connections properties
  • Network Tab > Settings
  • Uncheck - Negotiate multi-link for single link connections
• In vpn connections main properties
  • Security tab
  • Check - Allow unsecured password

Although these were solutions that Microsoft offers, these did not work for me.

Second VPN fix

This is the fix that worked for me Technet- Error 734: The PPP Link Control Protocol Was Terminated

• In the connections properties
  • Security tab
  • Choose Advanced Custom Settings
  • Click settings
  • Uncheck everything except MS-CHAP v2
