signature verify fail is an error seen during fastboot procedures like flashing on occasion-- a lot more with HTC rooting. It is my experience that this is because of S-OFF not being set as well as the device not being rooted.
Fixes
- Check your root procedure, and make sure you did it all
- if you are using an HTC make sure S-OFF is set, and the device is rooted
- A way to do this is using the program revolutionary - http://revolutionary.io/ (you need temporary root!)
