New page

'''The Grasshopper Lies Heavy''' is a film in "The Man in The High Castle" TV series where the Axis won World War II and control America. The meaning was a bit vague, but I did some research and came up with a plausible meaning.
Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets
-Ecclesiastes 12:5 (King James Bible)

And the grasshopper drags itself along and desire no longer is stirred.
-Ecclesiastes 12:5 (New International)

==Meaning==
The bible verses above have been interpreted as people getting old: [http://www.bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Topical.show/RTD/CGG/ID/14826/Grasshopper-is-Burden.htm Bibletools.org], [http://genius.com/2551117 genius.com]. The aging people are afraid of heights, their hair blooms white like almond trees, even small items like a grasshopper can be a burden to lift, and desire shall fail because man goeth to his long home-- death. Considering these, '''The Grasshopper Lies Heavy''' is a reference to Ecclesiastes 12:5- the man in the coffee shop in episode 2 even mentions this verse.

===Who is the grasshopper?===
My belief is the grasshopper represents the occupation of enemy forces in America. Once a thing we could manage and control, now it was too heavy to do anything with.

===Who is the burden on?===
The burden of the grasshopper is not on old people, but rather the former Americans, aging and dying off. The former Americans are a dying people, a relic going to their "long home".

===What does it mean?===
'''The Grasshopper Lies Heavy''' means to me that the occupation of America is unstoppable because of the fact that Americans have lost their desire to change the situation. The people are slowing down just like the elderly in the bible verse. They are becoming less capable to reverse their situation as they get closer to their "long home".
